All the staff have prepared a tuff tray or activity linking with a 'Walkers book' for Walkers book week. There are lots of reasons why these great books should be celebrated. Taking part in Walker Books Week allows stories, that have been adored for years, to be introduced to a new generation of readers. This helps to foster a love of reading in children at a young age and can make reading fun. Not only this, but encouraging children to take pleasure in sitting down with a book is also a great brain exercise. It can improve learners focus and concentration, as well as develop communication and imagination. Reading also allows young children to recognise words and phonics as they decode and blend sounds.
The staff created activities around Owl babies, Handa's surprise, We're going on a bear Hunt, Guess how much I Love You, Peace at Last and Little Rabbit Foo Foo. The children have voted today for their favourite. We understand the importance of children having a voice in voting and this is significant for several reasons. Allowing children to express their opinions fosters a sense of empowerment and helps understand that their thoughts and choices matter. Participating in a voting process helps children develop essential social skills to learn to listen to others, articulate their views and respect differing opinions.
When children are given the opportunity to vote it helps children grasp the basics of democracy and learn about fairness, representation and the importance of having a say in decisions that impact their lives. Today, the children took it in turns to express their favourites.
The winner is: Jess. Jess created an interactive experience on the story We are Going on A Bear Hunt. The group all participated in listening to the story and acting out the key events. One child took on the role of being the bear and the others were those going on a bear hunt. This activity continued in the outdoor environment too where Jess captured the children's imagination and created awe and wonder.
