What is World Nursery Rhyme Week?
Celebrating the importance of nursery rhymes in early childhood. It aims to promote the positive impact and influence nursery rhymes can have in early childhood development and education.
When is World Nursery Rhyme Week 2024?
This year, World Nursery Rhyme Week 2024 will be taking place from Monday 11th November to Friday 15th November.
Who is World Nursery Rhyme Week for?
World Nursery Rhyme Week is targeted at parents, early years practitioners, and anybody who works with children under the age of 7.
This being said, anyone can actually take part! Nursery Rhyme Week can be fantastic for anyone looking to get their children interested in poetry, song, verse, and more. Participants in previous events have included grandparents, breakfast & after-school clubs, parent & toddler groups, nurseries, childminders, nannies, and children's charities.
Within the UK, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is just the time to explore nursery rhymes with children from 0 to 5 years old.
What happens over World Nursery Rhyme Week?
A week full of activities has been designed to explore the three key areas of skill development. These are:
Vocabulary, language, and literacy skills.
Numeracy skills.
Personal, social, and emotional skills.
Physical skills, such as fine and gross motor development.
The goal is to show children how much fun nursery rhymes can be! Encourage them to see how an interest in reading, rhyming, and song can be a great thing to develop, and to watch their confidence grow in literacy skills.
What is the Rhyme-a-Day Challenge?
The Rhyme-a-Day Challenge is an annual part of the weekly festivities. Every year, five nursery rhymes are chosen, one for each of the weekdays that Nursery Rhyme Week encompasses. Each day, there is an encouragement to create exercises and activities related to that day's rhyme.
This week a variety of nursery rhyme actvities and tuff trays will be taking place at nursery.
We encourage lots of nursery rhymes in the children's home environment too.
Any photos or videos of your child's time during these songs would be fantastic!
thank you. The children can then share these pictures or videos with their friends and teachers.
